The DNEP office is located behind the current administration building in the northern part of the Tamaned building.
The Delaware Nation established the Environmental Program (DNEP) on November 1, 1997. The new department began development of the infrastructure necessary to expand the program into different project areas. The GAP Program is the core program with all additional programs revolving around it. The department is growing and now includes Air Quality Monitoring Program, Water Quality Program, Recycling Program, Solid Waste Program, and GIS/GPS Program (currently under the GAP Program). The GAP Program is set up as a capacity building program. It is designed to establish an office, provide necessary equipment and staff the office with trained and qualified personnel. This GAP program is then to seek funding that will address the environmental concerns of the Delaware Nation. These concerns have been centered around, but are not limited to, Air Quality, Water Quality, and Solid Waste.
The DNEP works with the United State Environmental Protection Agency to ensure that facilities with the Delaware Nation jurisdiction are in compliance with environmental laws and ordinances. This may include tribal laws and ordinances that the department has helped to enact.
Mentoring the next generation of environmental managers for the community is a strategic goal for DNEP. This includes the continuing education and training of the staff, the Environmental Regulatory Commission (ERC) and Executive Committee.
